Ted Stephens III

co-Founder & Principal
(He/HIM)

Ted co-founded Numad with Matt Ehlman to bring a different way of thinking about communication, community education and branding to nonprofits in both rural communities and major metropolitan cities. Today, he brings his two decades of experience working with—and for—nonprofits to the creative services work that Numad leads from our east coast office in New York City.

Ted has guided organizations through communication audits and planning, brand and messaging overhauls, media relations strategies, website redevelopment programs, and much more. He has led more than 50 nonprofits through communication programs that have elevated the awareness of organizations, and in turn, raised millions of dollars across the country by partnering with them to hone in on how they talk about themselves, and their impact, with prospective donors.

Ted is committed to furthering the missions of nonprofits. He started his career in higher education communication, working with both the enrollment management and fundraising teams at a private liberal arts school. He went on to lead communication and outreach efforts for a team tasked with raising more than $70 million during the worst economic recession since the Great Depression.

Since starting Numad, his creative work has been featured all over the country—and sometimes world. He has launched numerous websites, content management systems and online giving platforms over the past year. His writing, media relations and graphic design work has garnered our clients placements in newspapers and in electronic media regionally and nationally, from NBC’s The Today Show and The New York Times to New York Magazine and many more. His work is as diverse as his personal interests, having partnered with regional and statewide community foundations, off-Broadway theater companies and Broadway productions, food insecurity and human services nonprofits, and higher education institutions, among many others.

In addition to his work as a principal of The Numad Group, he is a co-founder of The Garage - Rapid City coworking space and Morning Fill Up conversation series.
